Recreational Horseback Riding

At the Center for Discovery we provide a recreational horseback riding program which emphasizes riding skills, communication, balance and muscle control, and of course fun! Individuals in the program ride on a weekly basis and are supported by a Certified Horsemanship Association (CHA) Instructor. The Center currently has three horses in the riding program: Jarle, Bailey, and Rio. We have individuals with a wide range of abilities participating in our program. Some individuals need the support of a mechanical lift to mount and dismount the horse and the support of a custom made wheel chair saddle while riding. Other individuals ride independent of any supports such as side walkers or a horse leader. All of our riders look forward to an in-house horse show that we host once a year where families and friends are invited to come and cheer on our riders! We have also done joint horse shows with other agencies and have participated in horse shows around Sullivan County.
