The New York State Conference on Psychiatric Comorbidity and Behavioral Challenges in Youth with Autism will be held at the New York Academy of Medicine in May 2017. Seven renowned experts will present talks and participate in panel discussions about psychiatric conditions associated with autism including treatments of complex and comorbid behaviors to suicide risk among those with Autism Spectrum Disorders.

The conference is sponsored by the Office for People with Developmental Disabilities’ Centers of Excellence in the Care and Treatment of Children with Complex Disabilities. The Center for Discovery was designated as a Center of Excellence because of its leadership in elevating the standard of care for those with complex disabilities and Autism Spectrum Disorders. The Center for Discovery and two other OPWDD agencies, Developmental Disabilities Institute and Upstate Cerebral Palsy, are able to use the Centers of Excellence grant to study autism complexities and provide faster, more cost-effective ways to care for children with autism and other neurodevelopmental conditions.

Many youth with autism are struggling with layers of comorbid conditions on top of their primary diagnosis. This event will be an opportunity for leaders in the field to share ideas about advancing the best possible care for these youth.
