While The Center’s organic apple orchards adjacent to the Discovery Health Center have been productive for years, this season’s was a particularly bumper crop of more than 500 bushels.
The trees were prepped and cared for all year by the students and staff and more than 60 participants helped in picking the apples once they were ready. Many of the apples have been distributed agency wide for eating and others have been used by students and staff to make cider. So far, more than 50 gallons of cider have been pressed and bottled.
