ASSET FAQs

What is the cost of ASSET services?
ASSET services are free of charge, funded by a grant from the New York State Office for People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD). Program participants must be enrolled with Medicaid (some exceptions apply). Medical evaluations, if recommended and/or necessary, will be billed through Medicaid or the participant’s private insurance.

How are ASSET services delivered?
Services are person-centered, based on initial evaluations and strengths determined during ASSET participation. A Functional Behavioral Assessment (FBA) will be conducted, followed by implementation of behavioral and other strategies that may include environmental organization, structuring of activities, developing emotional self-regulation through vigorous exercise and other strategies including sleep and eating.  In some cases, we will deploy technology in a student’s home and school, to capture bio-behavioral data through video and smart phone annotation, with the goal of determining which factors in your child’s environment contribute to problematic behavior and which interventions are – or can be – most effective.

When do ASSET services begin for qualified participants?
In-home and in-school services with in New York State will begin within two weeks of evaluations and may continue, under the OPWDD grant, for up to ten weeks depending on the needs of each participant. Similar services may be continued after the grant period through agreement with your school district or through the HCBS Medicaid Waiver if your child is eligible. We will provide you with all necessary information and resources regarding the HCBS Medicaid Waiver during ASSET participation.
